CREATING SPACES FOR EMPOWERMENT, ENGAGEMENT AND INCLUSION.<\/h2>\n

“…empowers\/supports people from disadvantage\/d backgrounds to have the knowledge, confidence and experience to enter public spaces.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Our programmes create spaces\/social bubbles for disadvantage\/marginalized people New Scots (new scots, asylum seekers\/immigrants\/refugees) to mingle with a view to reducing social isolation and loneliness while developing their digital skills as well as English skill set. Conceived to help people move beyond their disadvantages, it also empowers beneficiaries by equipping them to improve their economic potential. A value-added benefit to the inclusion goal and\u00a0 It is also an asset-based development approach: using what people have to lift them. One asset everyone has is the ability to learn: empowerment can start from there.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the biggest issues disadvantage\/marginalized people encounter is ISOLATION\/LONELINESS. They are away from families, friends, neighbours, or familiar environments. In welcoming a stranger (Matt. 25.35ff) we are helping to Reduce Social isolation\/loneliness if we bond with them and form long-term relationships with them. disadvantage\/marginalized people continually face hostility, challenge, and isolation which prevents them from being able to fully integrate into society; and some face considerable levels of poverty due to being unable to work or use their skills. They continue to be an excluded group in the UK. Factors like language, faith beliefs, or education contribute to exclusions from mainstream society; which then affect their productivity or well-being socially or economically.<\/p>\n

Mental health and well-being increasingly challenge our society daily. Isolation and loneliness have been identified as key causal factors for increased mental health issues. In most Western societies, the most isolated\/lonely people are immigrants of all stripes. While the pandemic restrictions are over, the isolation and loneliness it exposed are still with us today.<\/p>\n

Pursuant to the goal of creating social bubble spaces for families to prevent\/reduce social isolation\/loneliness, our programmes (Glasgow and North Lanarkshire) provide six regular family-inclusive social-interaction spaces for social connections activities:
(a) Skills acquisition (18+),
(b) Family Social Gatherings,
(c) Children-Playgroup-activity (ages 2-5),
(d) After-school\/ Holiday Fun Gathering (5-17),
(e) Boyz-2-Men, Galz-2-Women and
(f) Community theatre. Besides the social interactions, New Scots have a medium for telling their stories (via drama presentations).<\/p>\n
